Rooted in Tradition, Grounded in Science
At WomanWell, we offer an integrative approach to whole-woman care using evidence-based acupuncture therapy.
Acupuncture Care Designed for Every Woman
The first appointment begins with a thorough intake which is tailored to symptoms, health history, and goals. We take into consideration the interconnectedness of the body, often asking questions that don’t directly seem related to the primary concern. This informs a personalized treatment plan that is unique to each individual.
During a session, patients rest comfortably while needles are gently placed and retained for a period of time; most people experience the treatment as calm and restorative.
At Minnesota Women’s Care, acupuncture is commonly used to support menstrual and reproductive health, common symptoms of pregnancy, labor preparation, postpartum support and symptoms related to perimenopause and menopause. Beyond women’s health conditions, acupuncture still supports the health of the whole woman, including stress-related concerns, sleep challenges, or chronic pain.
Acupuncture can be used as a primary therapy or alongside other forms of supportive care. We foster a collaborative, patient-centered approach to care at Woman Well, and find a multimodal model to be most supportive for our patients.

- Frequently asked questions
Your Questions, Answered
At Womanwell, we believe care should feel personal, simple, and empowering—not confusing or overwhelming.
Does acupuncture hurt?
- Acupuncture needles are very thin, much finer than needles used for injections or blood draws. Most people feel little to no discomfort. Sensations may include achiness, warmth, heaviness, or tingling which are all considered normal and favorable.
How many treatments will I need?
This will vary based on your goals, symptoms, and how long an issue has been present. Some patients notice changes after a few sessions, while others may benefit from a longer course of care. Your treatment plan will be discussed and adjusted as needed.
Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy or for children?
Yes and yes. Acupuncture is considered very safe during pregnancy and for children when performed by a licensed practitioner with appropriate training in treating these populations.
Are there any side effects?
Most people feel relaxed or energized after a session. Occasionally, some soreness or mild bruising can occur at the needle site, which resolves quickly. It is important to arrive at your appointments well hydrated with a small amount of food in your system. Effects of caffeine will not change treatment outcome but may minimize relaxation effects during the session.
Do I need a referral?
In most cases, no referral is needed to receive acupuncture. If you are seeing other providers at our clinic, collaboration and coordination of care is encouraged. We often co-treat with Functional Medicine, chiropractic and physical therapy.
